Corydalis yanhusuo root, an ancient Chinese remedy, could be used to treat chronic pain. New research has shown that Corydalis yanhusuo root contains pain-relieving ingredient dehydrocorybulbine, which does not lose effectiveness over time as opiate drugs do.
Corydalis yanhusuo is a member of the poppy family, and has been used for centuries as an herbal remedy for stomach pain and menstrual cramps. It also contains several alkaloids that reportedly help improve blood circulation and relieve chest pain. The dehydrocorybulbine contained in the Corydalis yanhusuo root does not act on morphine receptors, but on one that binds dopamine. Dopamine helps control the reward and pleasure centers and helps regulate movement and emotional response.
Unlike
morphine, Corydalis yanhusuo root
does not lead to tolerance, and therefore does not induce dependence on the drug.
The new study, conducted by Olivier Civelli, a team from UC Irvine colleagues and other researchers in China, found that the dehydrocorybulbine from Corydalis yanhusuo root reduced inflammatory pain and neuropathic pain.

How much corydalis should I take?
The recommended dosage for corydalis is 5-10 grams per day of the dried rhizome. Some practitioners recommend an alternative of 10-20 millileters of an extract daily as an alternative.

How to use/administer Corydalis [Yanhusuo]?
Measure 5-10 gr. Add to about half litter of fresh water and bring to boil. Immediately reduce the heat to "simmer" for 10 minutes and leave it too cool. Please, don't drop herbs into boiling water, don't boil them and don't re-use or reheat decoction. Drink 2 glasses a day. For severe cases you might consider more herbs - about 15-20gr.
